Eero Ettala

How many years have you been snowboarding?
30 years. Damn time flies…

What’s your first memory of being on a board?
Just riding down my local kids sledding hill on my friends snowboard, wearing my sisters moon boots and Loving every second of it.

Where did you learn to snowboard?
At a small ski resort in eastern Finland called Mustavaara. We were around the area to visit my grandmother for winter holidays and spent few days at the resort snowboarding with my sister & brother.

What was the first trick you ever learned?
Must have been an indy grab or just an ollie of a small diy kicker.

What was the first snowboarding video you ever saw?
It was this super random swedish snowboard movie called ”Toast”. This must have been like 1996 or something.

Who had the biggest influence on your riding when you were starting out?
All the homies i was riding with on my local hill. Heikki Sorsa, iikka Backstrom, Eero Niemelä, Lauri Heiskari and so on. Great crew to be surrounded with.

Who’s your biggest influence now?
In life. My parents. Just how they raised me and my siblings. Im for ever thankful and hoping to be as good of a parent to my little ones.

Who do you think is the most underrated or underappreciated snowboarder out there?
There are a lot of riders that deserve more shine than they are getting, but to me Ozzy Henning was the one whos talent was maybe a bit over looked.

What video part do you watch to get hyped before filming?
Peter Lines part from MDP’s Simple Pleasures

When was the last time you scared yourself snowboarding?
Its been a while, i dont really like to scare myself too much these days anymore. It is fun to stay a bit lower off the ground these days.

What was the last trick you filmed?
I filmed this super random clip for the upcoming WOP video. Im hitting this small urban river gap but instead of building a jump out of snow i used a rock as a kicker. And the clip was filmed in the summer, so there was only a narrow strip of snow that was imported from the hockey rink, which made the clip even more random looking.

It just snowed two feet in a city five hours away. Who’s jumping in the van with you for the road trip?
The WOP crew. Dr. Luti & Antti Jussila.

On that trip, you find the perfect down bar. How many stairs is it? What’s your go-to trick—and your dream trick?
It would be around 30 stairs and my go to trick would be a bs lip & dream trick nollie bs 270.

It’s going to dump two feet overnight at your local resort. Who are you calling to ride with in the morning?
Heikki Sorsa!

Describe a perfect day on the board.
Cruising a slushy park with homies or having a fun diy session in the park setting up benches and stuff like that.

What’s your go-to L1 kit for street and park laps? What about for powder days?
Rankin jacket & pants for everything! All day every day!
